EVELYN COSSEY KEEL CONAWAY
was born in Savannah, Tennessee on May 4, 1928 the daughter of the late Arthur and Sula Mae Lynch Cossey.
On October 4, 1947 she was united in marriage to Elvin Lawrence Keel, who preceded his wife in death on January 23, 1973. On March 19, 1983 she was united in marriage to Gilbert Claude Conaway, who preceded her in death on June 29, 2008.
Mrs. Conaway was raised in White's Creek community, she lived in Hardin County, Tennessee all of her life except for ten years in Chicago, Illinois. While living in Chicago she worked at I. S. Berlin Company. Mrs. Conaway retired from Pickwick State Park Inn. She was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church and a member of the Hardin County Republican Women. Mrs. Conaway loved the Lord, her family, friends and church family. She was known as great granny who loved going to gospel singings. She enjoyed traveling on big tour buses, going to as many states she could and collecting souvenir spoons while enjoying the sites. She and papa enjoyed camping, gardening and fishing, family and friends enjoyed eating fish they caught and cooked. If she wasn't cooking, she was working in her flower garden and yard. She always had some type of project going. She was always ready to lend a helping hand when ever asked, and most of the time before she was asked.
Mrs. Conaway departed this life on October 3, 2015 in Savannah, Tennessee at the age of 87 years, 4 months and 29 days.
She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Keel Benson of Savannah, Tennessee.
two grandchildren, Brian Benson of Florence, Alabama and Rhonda Michael of Savannah, Tennessee.
six great grandchildren, Claudia Michael, Will Michael and Ryan Cade Michael , all of Savannah, Tennessee, Hannah Benson, Anna Kate Benson and Sophie Benson, all of Florence, Alabama
two sisters, Bernice Mae White of Savannah, Tennessee and Jane Aumack of Bristol, Indiana
Mrs. Conaway was also preceded in death by one infant son, one brother, Berlon (Bodie) Cossey and two sisters, Lucille Austin and Edith Bevis.
