Evelyn Pickens Smith
was born in Savannah, Tennessee on August 8, 1921 the daughter of the late Samuel and Dee Henson Pickens.
On July 13, 1963 she was united in marriage to Richard Martin Smith, who preceded her in death on April 6, 2004.
Mrs. Smith had also lived in Jackson, Tennessee, Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Oswego, Illinois, Aurora, Illinois, and Monterey, Tennessee. She had worked for Western Electric, International Shoes, Milan Arsenal and Bemis Cotton Mill. Mrs. Smith was a simple, yet elegant woman who enjoyed gardening, southern cooking, sewing, and enjoying every moment she had with her loving family.
Mrs. Smith departed this life on September 11, 2010 at the age of 89 years, 1 month, 3 days.
Mrs. Smith is survived by 3 daughters, Cynthia Marie Pickens Simmons of Eustis, Florida, Brenda Diane Pickens Borneman of Aurora, Illinois and Janet Louise Smith Bush of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Elvin (Jake) and James Pickens; 3 sisters, Edith (Betty) Tolbert, Lucille (Cindy) Williams and Johnnie Ruth Webb.
