Flora Jean Melson
was born in Wayne County, Tennessee on August 1, 1937 the daughter of the late Will Tom and Mattie Brown Stricklin.
On May 17, 1968 she was united in marriage to James Roy Melson, who survives.
Flora was a homemaker and was a member of Sand Hill Holiness Church in Savannah. She loved flowers, gardening, canning, and most of all spending time with her family. Flora also loved quilting and would make quilts for her grandchildren. Cooking was one of her greatest joys and she took pride in it. Flora made fried pies and sold them at local businesses and she was known as the "Pie Lady".
Flora departed this life on Thursday, May 2, 2024 in Savannah, Tennessee at the age of 86 years, 9 months, and 1 day.
In addition to her husband Roy of nearly 56 years, she is survived by her children, Johnny Burns (Belinda), Ronnie Melson (Becky), Marilyn Soria (Jose), Linda Bridges (David), and Jennifer Wiley; grandchildren, Amanda McGee, Andrea Pirtle, Noah Melson, Bella Melson, Alexandria Cagle, Brayden Pham, Caitlynn Pham, Jordan Hurley, Kasey Hurley, and Jessica Bridges; nine great grandchildren and one due in August; and a host of extended family.
Flora was preceded in death by her parents, Will and Mattie Stricklin; brothers, Billy Stricklin, James 'Shug" Stricklin, and David Stricklin; sister, Marie Phillips; sisters in law, Jewel Stricklin and Irene Stricklin; brother in law, Grady Phillips; and great grandson, Caden Hurley.
Pallbeares will be grandsons, Jordan, Kasey, Brayden, Noah, Matt, and great grandson, Ayden.
