FLORENCE MELTON WARD
Finger, TN: Florence Melton Ward age 98 passed away Monday morning July 20, 2015 at McNairy County Healthcare.
She was born December 5, 1916 in Chester County, the daughter of the late James John (Jim) and Minnie Jane Newsom Melton. She went to school at Plainview and Jacks Creek and married James Leonard Ward in 1938 and they made their home at Finger where Mr. Ward farmed and taught school. She worked a few years in the cafeteria at the Finger School.
She loved to do art work and had many oil paintings until she was in her 80’s and also loved to crochet and knit. She was a member of the Sweetlips Baptist Church.
Mrs. Ward is survived by a son, Dennis Ward and wife Wanda of Selmer; a daughter, Judy Sims of Bartlett; two grandchildren, Cindy Levinson and Megan Hamlington; five great grandchildren, Jill Levinson, Sophie Levinson, Levi Hamlington, Elisa Kellum and Megan James and two great-great grandchildren, Mark Kellum, Jr. and Casey Kellum and one sister, Minnie Gerald Brock of Knoxville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James Leonard Ward; a son-in-law, Joe Sims, Sr.; a grandson, Joe Sims, Jr.; nine brothers, Joe Melton, Bob Melton, J.W. ‘Toad’ Melton, Thomas Melton, Newsom Melton, Paul Melton, Luke Melton, Bill Melton and also one infant brother and four sisters, Ruth Pierce, Rachel Lott, Audrey Wallace and Maurine Phillips.
Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Saturday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel with burial in Finger Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Casey Chapel 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday.
