Florene Thompson Brewer

Florene “Flo” Thompson Brewer, a beloved soul, peacefully departed this life at the age of 93 on October 30, 2025, in Boise, ID. She was born on January 7, 1932, in Collinwood, TN. Flo was the cherished, only daughter of Annie Butler Thompson and James Thompson. Her life was filled with love and devotion beginning with her parents and five brothers. As a young woman, Flo became a Christian believer at a tent revival in Wayne County, TN.

Flo united in marriage with Joel Brewer on January 9, 1953 and shared 72 years of love and commitment. They built a life in Lauderdale County, AL, living 50 years in the Central Heights Community and attending Central Heights Baptist Church. Her passion was family. Her grandson and great grandson were the delight of her life. Flo received and gave much joy in tending the garden, preserving the harvest, and preparing delicious meals. She loved the thrill of shopping and discovering treasures at yard sales, as well as hosting many sales of her own.

Flo is survived by her husband, Joel Neal Brewer of Boise, ID; daughter, Diane Brewer Hudson (Gary) of Eagle, ID; brothers, Ralph Thompson (Joy) of Florence, AL and Gene Thompson (Gladys) of Temperance, MI; grandson, Adam Brewer Hudson (Anna) of Boise, ID; great grandson, John Willis “Jack” Hudson.

Nieces and nephews; Sherry Vaughn, Chuck Thompson (Patti), Pam Neumeyer (Chuck), Charlotte Hill (Larry), Anthony Thompson, Renee Parker, Brenda Whitlock, Valerie Smith (Marty), Lisa McFall (G.L.), Patrick Brewer (Misty), Winn Brewer and many great nieces and nephews.

Flo was preceded in death by her parents. Brothers: Charles “Buster” Butler, Joel Thompson (Evelyn), Robert “Rod” Thompson (Peggy); nieces, Debbie Tobin , Teresa “Sissy” Brewer and nephew Rod Thompson, Jr; great nephew, Josh Neumeyer and great niece, Allison Thompson.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 16, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Collinwood, TN with Patrick Brewer officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Garden of Wayne County in Collinwood, TN.

Pallbearers will be Adam Hudson, Anthony Thompson, Winn Brewer, Larry Hill, Jeff Spillers, Wayne Spillers.
