Floyd Earl (Sonny) Dixon was born May 8, 1941 in Tipton County, TN the son of the late John William and Irene Carver Dixon. Mr. Dixon departed this life on July 11, 2015 in Selmer, TN at the age of 74 Years, 2 Months, 3 Days.
Mr. Dixon was a Veteran of the United States Army having served honorably from 1963-1966. He was a member of Maggie Jones United Methodist Church. Mr. Dixon owned and operated his own HVAC business in Memphis as well as a real estate investment company. He was retired from the City of Memphis and had previously worked at Federal Express. He also retired from the State of Tennessee Department of Corrections as Facility Manager at the Mark Luttrell Corrections Center in Memphis and worked for Tennessee General Services.
Floyd enjoyed restoring antique tractors, fishing, and playing card games with family. He liked to drive fast and took pride in how quickly he could make a trip. He was beloved by his family, friends, and neighbors for his generous spirit and wit.
He is survived by two sisters, Ann Dixon Ward of Lawrenceburg, TN, and Margie Lois Nurse of Morro Bay, CA, as well as a host of extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Dixon was preceded in death by five sisters, Mattie Lou Kobeck, Edith Marie Newman, Sarah Elizabeth Mooneyham, Minnie Lee VonBuskirk, and his twin sister Flora Pearl Dixon who died in infancy; three brothers, Jon Brison Dixon, Billy Ray Dixon, George Truett Dixon.
