Frances Earlene Whitten Barkley of Iron City, TN was born January 17, 1927 in Wayne Co., TN, the daughter of the late Walter F. and Rosie Pearl Rich Whitten. She was united in marriage to Allen Barkley on December 21, 1947 and he preceded her in death on July 10, 1998.
Mrs. Barkley was a retired sewing machine operator at Collinwood Manufacturing and was a member of the Scotts Chapel Freewill Baptist Church in Cypress Inn, Tennessee.
Mrs. Barkley departed this life on Sunday, June 24, 2012 at Wayne Medical Center in Waynesboro, Tennessee at the age of 85 Years, 5 Months, 7 Days.
She is survived by daughters, Linda Barkley Morgan and husband, Gordon of Iron City, TN, Mary Ann Barkley Smith of Waynesboro, TN; a son-in-law, Larry Miller of Collinwood, TN; grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann Morgan Horton, Holly Morgan Baskins, and Josh Smith; great-grandchildren, Aidan Russ Baskins, Luke Horton, and Ivy Horton;a brother, Fred Whitten and wife, Dot of Florence, AL; sisters, Ora Jean Kelley of Florence, AL, Eliza Butler of Iron City, TN; nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Barkley was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathryn Barkley Miller; son-in-law, Henry Smith; grandsons-in-law, Darrell Horton and Daniel Baskins; brother-in-law, Raymond Kelley; and nephew, Randy Kelley.
Services will be held on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at 1:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors Chapel, Collinwood, Tennessee, with John E. Banks officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Gardens, Collinwood, Tennessee with Shackelford Funeral Directors, Wayne County, directing. Pallbearers will be Thomas Butler, Dennis Butler, Stacey Vickery, Steve Barkley, Larry Kelley, and Bobby Rich.
