Frances Byrd

Frances Lay Byrd of Waynesboro, TN was born June 13, 1922 in Collinwood, Tennessee, the daughter of the late William Noah and Hulda Morrison Lay. She was united in marriage to James Calvin Byrd on March 5, 1942 and he preceded her in death on April 21, 1988.



Mrs. Byrd was retired from Genesco, was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Waynesboro, Tennessee, and was a loving wife , mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.



Mrs. Byrd departed this life on Sunday, April 10, 2011 at her home at the age of 88 Years, 9 Months, 28 Days.



She is survived by two sons, James Allen (Jim) Byrd and wife, Faye of Waynesboro, TN and Jeffery Steven (Steve) Byrd and wife, Karen of Casa Grande, AZ; five grandchildren, Kelley Byrd Deason of Pulaski, TN, Michael Byrd of Waynesboro, TN, Chris Byrd of Lebanon, TN, Katherine Byrd of Franklin, TN, and Calvin Byrd of Sioux, City, IA; four great-grandchildren and was looking forward to her fifth great-grandchild due in August.



In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Byrd was preceded in death by five half-brothers, Kenny Lay, Raymond Lay, Joe Lay, Jamie Lay, Almon Lay; two half-sisters, Mary Lay Ledbetter, Lillian Lay Griggs.



Services will be held on Thursday, April 14, 2011 at 1:00 PM at First United Methodist Church in Waynesboro, Tennessee, with Lea Thornton and Marvin Champion officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Gardens, Waynesboro, Tennessee with Shackelford Funeral Directors directing. Pallbearers will be Milton Byrd, Terry Bradley, Herbert Brewer, John Galbreath, Joey Coxwell, Dale Byrd, Randy Butler, and Richard Lacher.



Visitation will be Wednesday, April 13, 2011 from 6 pm to 9 pm at Shackelford Funeral Home, Waynesboro, TN. Her body will be placed in the church two hours before the services.
