FRANCES WITT
Henderson, TN: Frances Lillian Jenkins Witt, age 99, died early Saturday morning February 7, 2015 at Morningside Assisted Living in Springfield, TN.
Mrs. Witt was born and reared in Morganfield, KY the daughter of the late Manual Russo and Tenie Allinder Jenkins. She graduated as valedictorian of the Morganfield High School class of 1933 and attended Western Kentucky University at Bowling Green. She married Robert Lynn Witt in December of 1934. They moved to Henderson in 1943 where Dr. Witt taught in the Math, Science, and Bible departments at Freed-Hardeman. Mrs. Witt was secretary to President Dixon and later worked as bookkeeper at Freed-Hardeman for many years.
Mrs. Witt was very active in the Freed-Hardeman University Associates serving as treasurer for many years.
Dr. Witt and Mrs. Witt served as missionaries in Trinidad after retiring from Freed-Hardeman.
Mrs. Witt had made her home in Springfield since 2007. She was a member of the Hillcrest Church of Christ in Springfield.
She is survived by a daughter Rose Lynn Witt James and husband Tom of Springfield, three grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert Witt in 1984 and a brother William ‘Bill’ Jenkins.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Tuesday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel with Dr. E. Claude Gardner, Ben Flatt and Alan Highers officiating. Burial will follow Tuesday afternoon at Mt. Zion Cemetery at Medina, TN.
The family will receive friends at Shackelford – Casey Chapel beginning at 11:00 am Tuesday.
