Mr. Frank T. “Tommy†Bass of Whiteville departed this life at the age of 81 years, one month and five days Monday, April 8, 2013 at Methodist Healthcare – Fayette in Somerville.
Mr. Bass was born March 3, 1932 to the late Robert Penn, Sr. and Myrtle Blalock Bass and graduated with the class of 1950 from Whiteville High School. He went on to achieve a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Lambuth University, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He also served in the United States Air Force and attended the Columbia Military Academy.
With the exception of two years in Memphis, Mr. Bass lived his entire life in the Whiteville area. On May 2, 1959, Mr. Bass was united in marriage to the former Maribeth Lawrence, who survives. He was the former owner of Bass Insurance Agency in Whiteville and also acted as President and CEO of Whiteville Bank for many years. He was very active in his community as a member of the Jaycees and was a member of the Piperton First United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife of 53 years, survivors include a son, John L. Bass of Whiteville, and a nephew, Bert Bass, of Memphis. Those who preceded him in death include his parents and a brother, Robert Penn Bass, Jr.
