Fred Bourret, 81, of Bolivar, departed this life on Wednesday night, February 14, 2024, at AHC of McNairy in Selmer, TN.
He was born in Oakland, CA and lived most of his life in California before spending the last 23 years in Hardeman County. Mr. Bourret was a veteran of the US Marine Corps serving six years during the Vietnam war. He married Margaret Bourret on August 18, 1979 and she passed away on February 7, 2007. Mr. Bourret had been a service station owner/operator before going to work as a truck distribution manager specializing in clean up of military chemical sites. He was a member of the Bolivar First United Pentecostal Church where he served on the Trustee Board.
In his leisure time, he enjoyed fishing, particularly in solitude in his boat on the lake, coin collecting, yard work and, as a younger man, playing golf. Described by his family as a fine Christian, he loved his Lord, going to church and helping those who stood in need.
Funeral services are Monday, February 19, 2024 at 1:00 pm in the Shackelford Chapel - Bolivar. Visitation is Sunday, February 18, 2024 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at the Bolivar Chapel and Monday from 11:00 am until service time. Mr. Bourret will be laid to rest in Maple Springs Cemetery near Mercer, TN.
He leaves his wife of 16 years, Helen D. Strong Bryant Bourret of Bolivar; six step-daughters, Janoe Stauch of Huntsville, AL, Tiffany Smoot of Fair Oaks, AL, Susette Groetsema of Elk Grove, CA, Linda A. Kirk (Dewayne) of Corinth, Deborah A Jones (Dennis) of Bolivar and Rebecca D. Hill of Jackson; four step-sons, Charles E. Bryant (Donna) of Blue Mountain, MS, James E. Bryant (Dewan) of Bartlett, Larry Joe Bryant (Jean) of Henderson and Timothy A. Bryant (Cherie) of Bolivar; brother-in-law, Paul Stewart (Donna); 26 step-grandchildren and numerous step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his first wife and parents, Dorothy Train Bourret and Harold Bourret, he was preceded in death by step-son-in-law, David Hill; and step-great-grandsons, Blake Matthew Mitchell and Tony Dewayne Kirk, II.
