Mrs. Freddie Coleman, age 85, of Bolivar left this world on March 2, 2017 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital to go to her heavenly home. Visitation for Mrs. Coleman will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 4 at Shackelford Funeral Home in Bolivar. Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 5, at Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jim Koonce of Jackson, a long time neighbor and family friend, officiating. Burial will in the Bolivar Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Coleman was a native of Cloverport, Hardeman County, Tennessee, and was the only child of the late Fred Hugh and Alma Lee (Smith) Kiestler. She was a graduate of Bolivar Central High School, Class of 1951, and lived most of her life in Hardeman County. Her family roots ran deep in Hardeman County and some of her Pirtle and Toone ancestors were early settlers of the county.
She was a homemaker and also worked for over 20 years at Bolivar Florist. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Bolivar where she had taught in the Children’s Department (Sunday School and Church Training), was a member of the Sanctuary Choir, the Golden Sounds Choir, and the Women’s Missionary Union. She was a 2-time cancer survivor and a long-time participant in the Hardeman County Relay for Life. She enjoyed gardening, scrapbooking and crafts, and spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, James Albert (Al) Coleman of Bolivar, whom she married on January 19, 1962 while Mr. Coleman was serving in the United States Army. She is survived by her two children, Lisa Coleman and Chris Coleman, both of Bolivar, and her furry companion, her beloved dog Ani. Other survivors include her brother and sister-in-law, Hal and Joyce Coleman of Jackson, TN; a brother and sister-in-law, Greg (deceased) and Debbie Coleman of Murfreesboro, TN; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
