Freddie Mae Smith

Freddie Mae Smith was born October 26, 1925 in Guys, TN, the daughter of the late John Melton and Alice Adelia Mitchell Smith.

Mrs. Smith was an active 54 year member of Mt. Vernon Cumberland Presbyterian Church (1960-2014). She was a faithful member of the choir and one of the great cooks of the church. In years past, she worked for Levi Strauss in Ramer, TN.

Mrs. Smith departed this life on December 30, 2014 in Jackson, Tennessee at the age of 89 Years, 2 Months, 4 Days.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, James E.(Shorty) Smith of Eastview, TN; her five children: Betty Caldwell and Bill of Corinth, MS, Vickie Lyles and husband Jimmy of Eastview, TN, Mike Smith and wife Janie of Eastview, TN, Judy Kirk and husband Roger of Eastview, TN, and Anita King of Selmer, TN; nine grandchildren: Chad Smith and wife Ronda, Bart Caldwell, Jeremy Lyles and wife Marsha, Josh Smith, Wesley King and fiancee Christina Carroll, Jason Kirk, Mandy Caldwell, Jodi Tyler and husband Reagan, and Jourdan Hurd and husband Zach; eight great grandchildren: Justin Smith, Lexie Smith, JT Smith, Abbie Lyles, Khloe Caldwell, Shiloh Tyler, Meredith Whitfield, and Madelyn Whitfield.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Larron King; granddaughter, Lauren King; her siblings: Susie Huggins, Lessie Jones, Myrtle Gamell, Katherine Newcomb, Howard Smith, Arthur Smith, Jack Smith, Rupert Smith and Johnny Smith.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Jan 1, 2015 from 5:30 pm until 9 pm, and on Friday from 9 am until services at 11 am, all held at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Selmer, TN, with David Paseur, Jeff DeWees, Mike Smith, and Scott Fowler officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Larren King Ministeries or Mt. Vernon Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Ramer, TN.
