Gary E. Johnson

Henderson, TN: Gary Edward Johnson, age 67 passed away July 5, 2013 at Henderson Health and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born and reared in Maryville, TN, Blount County, the son of the late Edward and Ellen Trenthan Johnson. He graduated Everett High School in 1963 and joined the U.S. Navy. He was a hospital corpman with the Marines in Great Lakes then Vietnam and was wounded three times in Vietnam and was sent to Millington Naval Base in Memphis in 1967. He started to Memphis State and graduated in 1971 and began teaching high school Algebra for Memphis City School System for thirty four years retiring in 2002. He moved to the Pleasant Springs Community in 2008. Mr. Johnson was a member of the Grace Baptist Church, V.F.W. and the D.A.W. He loved reading books and watching movies.

He is survived by three brothers, Ronald Dale Johnson and wife Rose of Henderson, Larry Douglas Johnson of Maryville, TN and Gerald Witherington of Knoxville, TN and a sister, Shirley Marie Fox of Maryville, TN.

Funeral services will be 2:30 PM Sunday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel with Eric Martin officiating and burial with Military Honors will follow in Chester County Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends at Casey Chapel beginning at 12:30 PM on Sunday until service time.
