Gene Carroll Balentine of Loretto, TN was born June 14, 1945 in Florence, AL, the son of the late Rufus and Ethel Wright Balentine. Mr. Balentine was a retired construction worker and a member of the Church of Christ. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served during the Vietnam Conflict as a helicopter mechanic.
Mr. Balentine departed this life on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at his home at the age of 67 Years, 3 Months, 20 Days.
He is survived by sons, Frederick Steven Balentine of Saint Joseph, TN and Derrick Bronson Balentine of Greenhill, AL; grandchildren, Ashley , Molly , Lydia , Jaelyn , Brian , Brayden , Brenton , Kayla , Kandi , Kelsey , Casey , and Billy; sisters, Frances Whitten of Iron City, TN and Dorothy Kilburn and husband, Leon of Savannah, TN; a special girlfriend, Mavis Brandenburg of Tuscumbia, AL; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Balentine was preceded in death by a sister, Faye Bell; brothers, James, R. T., Carless, Louis, and Clarence Balentine.
Services will be Sunday, October 7, 2012 at 1:30 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors Chapel, Collinwood, Tennessee, with Billy Wright and Nolan Burns officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Cypress Inn, Tennessee with Shackelford Funeral Directors, Wayne County, directing. Pallbearers will be Chuck Brandenburg, Sonny Balentine, Robert Whitten, Reggie Balentine, Dalton Craig, and Chris Whitten. Honorary pallbearers will be Greg Kilburn, Brian Bell, and Brian Brandenburg.
