Gene Calton

Gene Calton departed this life on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at Waynesboro Health and Rehabiliation Center, Waynesboro, Tennessee at the age of 85 Years, 2 Months, 23 Days. He was born February 28, 1932 in Lawrence County, TN, the son of the late Thomas Henry and Mazie Lorene Brewer Calton.

He married Neva Rae Dixon on June 3, 1955 and she preceded him in death on May 20, 2003. He then married Frances Jeannette Horton on August 13, 2004.

In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Gloria Rae Calton Retherford Williams; grandchildren, Todd Grayson Calton and Amanda Calton Retherford; brother, James Calton; sisters, Cenia Cawthon, Bertha Lou Keeton and Ernestine Bealler.

Mr. Gene, retired from the Wayne County Board of Education, was the Agriculture teacher, Wayne County Vocational Center Director, Collinwood High School Principal and Adult Basic Education Supervisor and had been employed with Boone's Hill School and Hickman County High School, . He was a member of the Shawnettee Methodist Church and Wayne County Retired Teachers and served his country in the United States Army.

Services will be Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at 3:00 PM at Shawnettee Methodist Church, Collinwood, Tennessee, with Thad Calton and Luke Calton officiating. Burial will follow in Shawnettee Memory Gardens, Collinwood, Tennessee with Shackelford Funeral Directors, Wayne County, directing.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Visitation will be Monday, May 22, 2017 from 5:30 pm to 9:00 pm at Shackelford Funeral Home, Collinwood, TN and Tuesday, May 23, 2017 from1:00 pm until service time at Shawnettee Methodist Church, Collinwood, TN.
