Geneva Smith was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed all the sewing arts, her church activities, traveling and time with her family and friends.
She passed away Sunday, March 24, at Hospice House in Huntersville, North Carolina, at the age of 90.
She shared 45 years of marriage to her beloved husband, Trudell. Together they raised two children, Terry (deceased) and Gail Smith Hardy (Charlotte, North Carolina). Her three grandchildren were her pride and joy: Abby Bennett (Charleston, South Carolina), Jackson Hardy (Charlotte, North Carolina) and Luke Hardy (Colorado Springs, Colorado). Her first great-grandchild, Henry Smith Bennett, was born last summer.
Geneva was preceded in death by her son, Terry and her husband, Trudell, her sisters Josephine Arnold (Decatur, Alabama) and Jeanette Hunter (Huntsville, Alabama). Additionally, her brothers Billy Doran (Decatur, Alabama), Jimmy Doran (Decatur, Alabama) and Gene Doran (Savannah) preceded her death. Her parents were Edgar Couch Doran and Lillian Beatrice Hodge Doran.
Geneva was a Hardin County resident for 85 years. She is well known as a teacher at Hardin County Central High School where she taught home economics for more than 30 years. She positively touched innumerable young lives. She held a BS in home economics from UT Knoxville and a MA in Education from UT Martin. She was a member of First Methodist Church where she served in various capacities.
