George Bumpus,

George Bumpus, Sr. was born October 3, 1929 in Hardin County, Tennessee the son of the late Bert and Gertrude Sowell Bumpus.He was united in marriage to Opal V. Hassell on May 13, 1949. Mrs. Bumpus preceded him in death on October 2, 1999.Mr. Bumpus had worked for Hassell and Dowdy, Dowdy and Lacher, Riverboat Sand and Gravel Company, and Harbert Construction / TVA. He was a Deacon at the St. Mark Baptist Church.Mr. Bumpus departed this life on November 3, 2011 in Savannah, Tennessee at the age of 82 Years, 1 Month.He is survived by a daughter, Dineta B. Williamson; two sons, George Edward Bumpus Jr. and David A. Bumpus; four grandchildren, Jonathan Bumpus, Theda Bumpus, Lakeisha Hopson, and Tonice Davis; seven great grandchildren, Jaylen Hopson, William Shelton, Marcus Davis, Bryce Davis, Ashton Davis, Rien Bumpus, and Aaron Bumpus.In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Bumpus was preceded in death by three brothers, Eulis G. (Pete) Bumpus, Harvey Bumpus, and Lee Bumpus; three sisters, Mildred White, Lizzie Sparks, and Betty Tucker; a grandchild, Rufus Nelson Hopson Jr.
