George Daniel Sargent

April 29, 1936 — January 16, 2017

Mr. Sargent passed away early Monday morning, January 16, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett.

A native of Amory, MS, he was the son of the late Archie Madison and Beatrice Inez Hester Sargent. Mr. Sargent lived a short time in Illinois and has been residing in Hardeman County since 1972.

On April 6, 1957, he was united in marriage to Jennie Welch, who survives. The Sargents were just 3 months shy of their 60th wedding anniversary at the time of his death. Mr. Sargent spent 22 years in manufacturing as a tool and die technician with the last years of his career with Harmon Automotive in Bolivar.

A faithful, long-time member of the Dixie Hills Baptist Church, he taught Sunday School there for 10-12 years and a most important part of his daily routine was to read his Bible. Mr. George was an avid outdoors man, enjoying fishing, hunting, yard work, gardening and making bird houses.

His family and friends agree, he was always the most giving, compassionate, and caring individual to all. How fitting he should pass on the day that honors service. He loved and lived the credo of the famous quote by Dr Martin King.....Life's most persistent and urgent question. " What are you doing for others? " He gave freely, loved unconditionally, and refused to judge others in the face adversity.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Sargent is survived by two daughters, Shay Sargent Harris of Brighton, TN and Chardale Bishop (Timmy) of New Castle; one son, Edward Daniel Sargent of Lakeland, TN; a twin brother, William Thaniel Sargent of Amory, MS; and one sister, Peggy Jo Todd, also of Amory; six grandchildren, Crystal Barrett of Bolivar, Amber Harris Foreman (Aubrey) of Brighton, Austin Harris (Karah) of Mumford, TN, Dillon, William and Daniel Bishop, all of New Castle; and eight great-grandchildren, Clayton, Dakota, Chloe, Colton, Jonathan, Lawson, Amory and Logan.

Mr. Sargent was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Jean Sargent Shearin; a granddaughter, Tabitha Gillen Johnson; and two brothers, Doyle L. and Billy Gene Sargent.

Memorials may be sent to the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Ave.
