George Vernon Horton

George Vernon Horton of Collinwood, TN was born September 21, 1934 in Wayne Co., TN, the son of the late Claude V. and Ollie Opal Heard Horton. He was united in marriage to Mary Carolyn Stuart on February 25, 1956 and she preceded him in death on September 1, 1993.

Mr. Horton was a retired tow motor operator with Reynolds Aluminum. He was a member of the American Legion and served in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1958.

Mr. Horton departed this life on Sunday, December 6, 2020 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee at the age of 86 Years, 2 Months, 15 Days.

He is survived by a son, George Timothy Horton and wife, Dawn of Smyrna, TN; two granddaughters, Nikki and Emma Horton; a sister, Faye Lee of Cypress Inn, TN.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Horton was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Ray Horton.

Private graveside services will be held at Memorial Gardens of Wayne County in Collinwood, Tennessee, with Chuck Koblentz officiating. Burial will follow with Shackelford Funeral Directors of Wayne County assisting the family.
