George Herbert Ray

January 4, 1925 — March 9, 2010

George Herbert Ray of Waynesboro, TN was born January 4, 1925 in Lagrange, Arkansas, the son of the late George Nathaniel and Lois DeShazo Ray. He was united in marriage to Mary Josephine Pickett Davis on June 17, 1976 and Mrs. Ray preceded him in death on July 12, 2003.



Mr. Ray was a retired x-ray technician and retired as Chief Petty Officer in the Hospital Corporation with the U. S. Navy. He was a member of the Green River Baptist Church in Waynesboro, Tennessee, a member of American Legion, the Shriner's, and the Waynesboro Eastern Star.



Mr. Ray departed this life on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at his home in Waynesboro, Tennessee at the age of 85 Years, 2 Months, 5 Days.



He is survived by a son, David Ray of Maryville, TN; a step-daughter, Carolyn Seitz Boroughs of Waynesboro, TN; seven grandchildren, Gregory and Shayne Seitz, Chelsea, Andrew, and Marigrace Davis, Matthew and Lindsey Ray.



In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Ray was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl and Billy Ray; a step-son, Steve Ray.



Services will be held on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 1:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel in Waynesboro, Tennessee, with David Miller officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in the Memorial Gardens at Waynesboro, Tennessee with Shackelford Funeral Directors of Wayne County directing. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 10, 2010 from 6 pm to 8 pm and Thursday, March 11, 2010 from 8 am until service time at the funeral home.
