Georgia Sue Orr, born on September 13, 1933, in McNairy County, Tennessee, was a beloved daughter of the late Walter Lee and Lessie Mae Clayton Moore. On May 10, 1949, she united in marriage with Gerald Eugene Orr, who preceded her in death in 1999.
Throughout her life, Georgia was known for her dedication and warmth. She spent many years working at area garment factories and lovingly cooked at Dixie Cafe, Elm’s, and Liz’s Cafe. Her grandchildren fondly remember her as the cook of the best squirrel dumplings, homemade vegetable soup, and the finest canned tomatoes — a testament to her passion for preparing food and caring for those she loved. Beyond cooking, she cherished canning fresh vegetables and often carried food to the sick, always ready to lend a helping hand. Her generous spirit and caregiving nature touched the lives of everyone around her.
Perhaps her most cherished role was that of “Granny.” Affectionately called Granny Orr, she was the keeper of secrets, a patient listener, and the teller of treasured bedtime stories for her grandchildren. A true friend to all, she welcomed conversations and never hesitated to share her time and kindness.
Granny Orr peacefully departed this life on April 29, 2026, in Selmer, Tennessee, at the age of 92 years, 7 months, and 16 days. She leaves behind a loving family: her two sons, Randall Orr and wife Freda of Bethel Springs, and Robert Orr and wife Debbie of Selmer; her two daughters, Liz Tanner and Betty Reimer, both of Bethel Springs;
seventeen grandchildren, Felicia Sanders and husband Josh, Gabrielle Orr, Thomas Hodge, Timmy Hodge, Gina Miller and husband Jason, Sonya Isbell and husband Randy, Jessica Evans and husband Josh, Kelly Ashe and husband Jim, Michael Parmely, Melody Butler, Debbie Emerson and husband Jody, Jennifer Jones and husband Paul Lee, Amber Sebren, Brandy Gilchrist, Christy Hubanks, Jon Garner and wife Teresa, Kevin Foster; 35 great grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; and host of extended family and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Orr was preceded in death by three daughters, Judy Orr, Kay Sebren, and Anita Riddle; five sisters, Lelar Mathis, Lillian Davis, Pearl Harris, Jo Owens, and Edna King; and two brothers, Wayne and Melburn Moore.
Her legacy of love, kindness, and strength will forever remain in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her. Georgia Sue Orr’s life was a beautiful journey marked by devotion to family, generosity, and a heart full of grace.
