Gladys Colleen Axley

Gladys Colleen Axley entered into rest on February 12, 2017 in her home from complications related to Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension. Mrs. Gladys Colleen Axley, 85, beloved wife, for 66 years, of Mr. William Leon Axley of Michie, TN. Mrs. Axley was born February 3, 1932, in Fries, Virginia and grew up in Gas City, Indiana. She was a graduate of Gas City High School. Mrs. Axley was the daughter of the late Irma Grace Ramey Wilson and George Daniel Wilson.

Mrs. Axley enjoyed cooking, sewing and traveling. She was the wife of a Minister for 35 years and served as Choir Director, Teacher, and worked with missions. She served by her husband's side as he pastored Church of God Of Prophecy Churches in Lexington, NC, Rock Hill, SC, Ormond Beach, FL, Michie, TN, Gallatin, TN, Lenox, TN, McMinnville, TN, and Roberts Tabernacle near Westmoreland, TN. In addition, she coordinated and organized many community activities and events. She enjoyed serving others and was caring, compassionate, and service oriented. Most of all, she was passionate in her love and service to God, her husband, and her children.

Additional survivors include her daughter, Linda Renee DeVaughn and her husband Nathan of Augusta, GA., her three sons, David Leon Axley and his wife Donna of Michie, TN., Steven Dwayne Axley and his wife Lisa of Big Sandy, TN., Jonathan Neal Axley and his wife Beth of Michie, TN; twelve grandchildren; Dallas Campbell, Kristen Campbell, Kaitlin Campbell, Tiffany Swanson and her husband Eric, Steven Gregory Strickler and his wife Casaundra, Conor DeVaughn, Rhianna Axley, Austin Axley, Alan Axley, Addison Axley, Amber Axley and Alanna Wagoner; Ten great grandchildren, Allie Campbell, Clay Campbell, Caroline Swanson, Samuel Swanson, Sebastian Swanson, Tyler Strickler, Guiliana Strickler, Shyleah Carroll, Keylie Pitts and Cole Pitts. She was preceded in death by her daughter Teena Colleen Campbell in 2008 and son Ricky Lee Axley in 1954. She was also preceded in death by her nine siblings.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 17, 2017, 10:00 A.M., at The Church of God of Prophecy, Michie, TN with Rev. William Axley officiating. The family will receive friends on February 16, 2017 from 6:00 PM until 10:00 PM and on Friday from 9:00 AM until service time at The Church of God of Prophecy in Michie.
