Gladys Geneva Clausel

October 30, 1930 — January 21, 2016

Gladys Geneva Baugus Clausel was born on October 30, 1930 in Hardin County, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Walter B. and Ollie Cummings Baugus. On December 9, 1950, she was united in marriage to James L. Clausel, who preceded his wife in death on December 31, 2011.

Mrs. Clausel was a homemaker and was previously employed at Eddie's Super Foods in the bakery. She was a member of the Savannah Church of Christ. She was a wonderful mother, wife, and grandmother. She was always involved in all family activities, including birthday celebrations, graduations, sporting events, and band concerts. She was also a wonderful cook. She was best known for her homemade boiled custard, biscuit pudding, chicken and dressing, and jelly making. Gladys was a quilter and enjoyed stitching squares for her family and friends with her sister Rena Lee Russell.

Mrs. Clausel departed this life on January 21, 2016 in Savannah, Tennessee at the age of 85 years, 2 months, 22 days.

She is survived by her 3 children, Janice Smith and her husband Dr. Michael Smith of Savannah, Tennessee, Eddie Clausel and his wife Sandy of Savannah, Tennessee, and Steve Clausel and his wife Betty of Wichita, Kansas; 1 sister, Rena Lee Russell of Savannah, Tennessee; 12 grandchildren, Jason D. Burgess, Jamie C. Burgess, Lyndsay M. Smith, Alex Steven Smith, James Daniel Clausel, Kelli J. Clausel, Robby K. Clausel, Hannah J. Clausel, Chad P. Smith, Angela Ennis, Brent Smith, and Michael Westbrook; and 15 great-grandchildren, Jacob Burgess, Collin Burgess, Annabeth Burgess, Lily Grace Ludlam, Andrew Moody, Layla Michele Smith, Lauren Smith, Luke Smith, Carson Westbrook, Connor Smith, Noah Smith, Lainey Smith, Libby Ennis, Isabelle Ennis, and Sam Ennis.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Marietta Baugus and Edith Marie Baugus, and grandparents, Jerry and Molly Cummings and Lemuel and Mary Baugus.
