Gladys Marie Robertson

Gladys Marie Lewis was born the thirteenth of fifteen children to Henry B. and Luola Garner Lewis on September 11, 1928. She grew up in Bethel Springs and Henderson, and attended public schools in those communities, as well as the University of Tennessee. Gladys was saved under the ministry of Rev. R.G. Jackson in 1945, baptized in Jesus Name at the Bemis Pentecostal Church, and filled with the Holy Ghost at the Southern District Pentecostal Church Campground the same year. She married Fred Robertson in January of 1946. She served as Evangelist and Missionary Hostess, Church Youth Director, Bible School Director, Sunday School Teacher, Convention Delegate and Church Secretary for the United Pentecostal Church in Tennessee and Mississippi. She lived and worked with her husband in Tennessee and Illinois; and then was a principal of the family business, Robertson Brothers Trading Post, from its inception in 1952 until her retirement in 1993. She served two terms as McNairy County Commissioner, and held multiple offices with the McNairy County Republican Party.

Mrs. Gladys passed away at Chester County Healthcare on Sunday, March 23 after a brief illness.

She was preceded in death by thirteen of her brothers and sisters; by her eldest son Wayne in 1995; by her grandson Michael Lee True in 2000; and by her husband Fred in 2009.

She is survived by her sister, Frances Lewis Cupples Holland of Savannah, TN, by her youngest son John Paul of Finger, TN; by four grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and a whole host of nieces and nephews, most of whom she helped raise.

Visitation will begin at 4 pm Tuesday, March 25, at Johnson Chapel of Shackleford Funeral Directors, on East Main Street in Henderson, across from the Chester County Middle School.

Funeral Services will be at 11 AM on Wednesday, March 26, at Johnson Chapel, with interment at Cabo Cemetery on Highway 22A between Jacks Creek and Enville.
