Henderson native, Glenda Mae Griffin Johnson, passed away in Cincinnati, OH on Thursday, August 27. The daughter of the late Pearl and Warren Griffin, Mrs. Johnson graduated from Chester County High School and attended Freed Hardeman. In 1954, she married John Armpstead Johnson, II, also of Henderson and the son of the late Armpstead Meeks Johnson and the late Nancy Thomas Johnson.
Mrs. Johnson lived a full life as Mr. Johnson’s partner while his education and career took them to Oxford, Mississippi; Paris, France; Milan, Tennessee; Dallas, Texas; Chicago, Illinois; Sacramento, California; Baltimore, Maryland, Cincinnati, Ohio; and, Amelia Island, Florida. At each stop in their journey together, she made countless friends.
She is survived by Mr. Johnson, now of Cincinnati, OH along with her daughters, Jacqueline Hicks (John) of Nashville, TN and Jennifer Hall (Bruce) of Cincinnati, OH. She leaves four grandchildren of whom she was immensely proud and fond: Jack Hicks (Leigh), Nashville, TN; Allison Hicks Younts (Carter), Memphis, TN; Amelia Hall, Lexington, KY; and, Anna Hall, Cincinnati, OH. She is also survived by her sister Reba Forshey (Paul) of Fairfield Glade, Tennessee and nieces, Cheryl Counts Gilbert (Matt) and Kelly Counts Self (Mike).
A memorial service was held for her at the Twin Lakes Senior Living Community on August 30, 2020. She will be interred at the Henderson City Cemetery after a graveside service at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 7, 2020.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial to the charity of the donor’s choice.
