Gloria Atkins Brown

Gloria Atkins Brown, beloved wife, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2026 in Selmer, Tennessee, at the age of 79 years, 3 months, and 20 days. Born March 4, 1947, in Corinth, Mississippi, Gloria was the cherished daughter of the late Ingram and Susie Hopkins Atkins. Her journey through life was shaped by treasured family bonds, unwavering kindness, and a spirit that touched everyone she met.

Gloria’s early years were steeped in the love and values of her family. She grew up surrounded by her parents, her brothers Malcolm and Hoyt, and her sisters Cornelia and Barbara. From these formative years, she carried with her the enduring strength and warmth that would define her life.

On July 9, 1984, Gloria was united in marriage to James “Buck” Brown, with whom she built a loving home in Michie, Tennessee. Their partnership was a true testament to devotion and companionship—one marked by laughter, support, and the gentle consistency of everyday care. Gloria delighted in being a wonderful wife, standing by Buck through life’s ups and downs.

She dedicated many years of her life to her work as a secretary, bringing her remarkable organization and caring touch to Hall Printing and a law firm in Nashville, later sharing her talents at BF Goodrich. In every workplace, Gloria made colleagues feel more like friends, her compassion and attentiveness improving each environment she joined.

More than anything, Gloria’s warmth radiated within her family. She is survived by her beloved husband, James “Buck” Brown of Michie, TN; her devoted sisters, Cornelia Counce Michie, TN, and Barbara Rodgers of Corinth, MS. She is also remembered with tender affection by her many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

To her family and friends, Gloria was so much more than a wife and sister. She was a wonderful cook—her coconut cakes and potato cheesy casserole became legendary at family gatherings and celebrations. She relished the excitement of NBA basketball. Those whose lives she touched remember her not just for her culinary talents and hobbies but for her gentle encouragement, her steady presence, and the joy she took in every moment spent with loved ones.

A member of Box Chapel Methodist Church, Gloria’s faith guided her, anchoring her in hope and compassion that she extended to all. Throughout her years, she remained deeply connected to her church community and to those she loved.

While Gloria held dear her surviving siblings and husband, she was preceded in death by her father, Ingram Atkins; mother, Susie Hopkins Atkins; stepmother, Myra Atkins; and brothers, Malcolm and Hoyt Atkins. Their memory lives on in the stories Gloria shared and the love she gave so freely.

As we remember Gloria Atkins Brown, we celebrate a life characterized by kindness, laughter, and an enduring devotion to family and friends. Her legacy endures in every warm memory, every homemade dessert, and every life she touched with her generous spirit. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
