Gordon Clay (Pete) Smith was born December 21, 1928 in Hot Springs, Arkansas the son of the late Millard Gileth and Bertha Page Smith.He was united in marriage to Edda Jo Kinchen on August 9, 1957.He and his family moved back to Crump, TN when he was a baby. He was named in honor of his grandfather, Henry Clay Smith, also of Crump. His accomplishments were many as a young man. He helped log the Tennessee river bottoms in preparation for the construction of the Tennessee Valley Authority's Pickwick Dam, and helped his father Millard electrify many homes in Hardin County, TN. He continued his career as an electrician and plumber, but also held other careers, such as blacksmith and oil refinery worker. Mr. Smith departed this life on May 28, 2011 in Selmer, Tennessee at the age of 82 Years, 5 Months, 7 Days. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Edda Jo Kinchen Smith of Selmer, TN; a daughter, Deborah Hill of Selmer, TN; a son, Dr. William Clay Kinchen Smith and wife Beth of Gainesville, FL; three grandchildren: Sara Rachel Hill of Selmer, TN, Bonnie Maureen Smith and Jess Kinchen Smith, both of Gainesville, FL; and a sister, Wilma Dale Hunter of Memphis, TN. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a sister, Lonell Seay; and a brother, Raymond Smith.
