Gracie Jane Austin Pickens departed this life on Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at the age of 81 years, 11 months, 13 days.She was born in Hardin County, Tennessee on August 5, 1930, the daughter of the late James Harve and Gladys Gibbs Austin. On December 17, 1946, she was united in marriage to Hassell Pickens, who preceded his wife in death on March 17, 2012. During her life she had lived in the Burnt Church community for several years and within the Savannah city limits for about the last 17 years. Ms. Gracie Jane had worked in the Finishing Department at Savannah Manufacturing, and loved to raise a garden, loved to cook and have family meals, and loved her grandchildren. She had also loved attending church at Souls Harvest Church of God, where she was a member.She is survived by her sons, Bobby Pickens and Wayne Pickens both of Savannah, Tennessee; 6 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; a sister, Frankie Baugus of Savannah, Tennessee and a special niece whom she thought of as a daughter, Francis (Elsie) Crum of Humboldt, Tennessee.In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Hermon Austin; sisters, Dorothy Smith, Corene Baugus and Ruth Copeland.
