Grady Jackson was born in Mississippi and passed away peacefully at his home in Savannah, Tennessee on Tuesday September 16, 2025. He was the son of the late Grady and Dee Jackson. Grady was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Louise Taylor Jackson, whom he dearly loved and cared for until her passing in 2023.
Grady grew up in Counce, Tennessee, and graduated from Southside High School, where he played basketball. In high school he first found his love for music, learning to play the guitar and singing regularly on the local country radio station. He lived for a brief time in Ramer, Tennessee, after marriage before moving to Memphis. There, he and his family spent over 35 years building many friendships at church and in the community. Grady retired from automotive sales and moved back to Counce in 1999, and recently relocated to Savannah to be closer to his church, Riverview Baptist Church.
While living in Memphis, Grady actively supported his children's passions and activities, including volunteering with church youth groups, coaching youth sports, and being the biggest cheerleader for his children. He enjoyed many couples activities with Louise, including traveling, bowling, square dancing and socializing with their Sunday School Class from Colonial Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Grady was an avid hunter and fisherman, always enjoying fishing with friends on the Tennessee River. He also enjoyed golf, water skiing, and many other activities where he could be social with his many friends and family. His favorite water sport was driving his grandkids around on the pontoon boat or pulling them on the innertube.
Grady loved music, especially gospel music, and could always be convinced to attend a concert or gospel singing. He enjoyed singing in the choir at Riverview Baptist Church and over the years sang in many quartets that would travel to nearby churches and entertain his fellow churchgoers.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Jeffery Allen Jackson, and six brothers and sisters: Juanita Miller, Jean Fowler Jenkins, Sue Smith, Jessie Griffin, Charles Jackson and Larry Jackson.
Grady is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Barnes and her husband Bobby of Crump; son David Jackson and his wife Donna of Houston, TX; grandchildren Stephanie Taber and her husband Paul of Las Vegas, Matthew Kutz and his wife Caitlin of Memphis, Jordan Kutz and his wife Molly of Memphis, Cassidy Kutz of Memphis, Will Jackson of Houston, TX and Elizabeth Jackson of Houston, TX. Grady was blessed with four great-grandchildren: Kaden Taber, Riley Taber, Camden Kutz, and Adeline Kutz. He is also survived by one sister, Sharon Jackson of Corinth, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
