Grady Wolfe

June 10, 1942 — June 1, 2025

Grady Fay Wolfe, Jr. was born in June 10, 1942 in Savannah, Tennessee to Grady Fay Wolfe, Sr. and Annie Aleen Walker Wolfe.

He was married on September 1, 1963 to Linda Taylor Wolfe, who survives.

Grady, a master barber, graduated from Moler Barber Academy in Memphis, Tennessee. While in Memphis, he worked at the Baptist Hospital and King's Den. In 1970 he moved back home to Savannah to open his own business, Wolfe's Barber Shop. In 2010 he sold his shop and went to work for Jerry Williams at All American Barber Shop and retired in 2013, after 52 years of barbering.

Not knowing what to do with the extra time on his hands he decided to buy a motorcycle, a Harley Davidson Sportster. The salesman asked if he had ever ridden a motorcycle before and he said no, but if I can get it out of the parking lot, I can get it home.... and he did and had many years he enjoyed riding. He called it his "Therapy".

Grady was husband, Daddy, Papa and Uncle to his family and a friend to many. He was saved early in his life and loved God and served Him all his life. He was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church and shed blood, sweat and tears and many prayers to see the building built. He kept the grounds up, taught Sunday School, headed up the bus ministry and served in every way he could . Years later he joined Mt. Hermon Baptist Church where he faithfully continued to serve the Lord, make cherished friends and memories.

Around 2000, Grady discovered his talent for wood carving, wood burning and painting. He started carving fish, butterflies and birds with his pocket knife. Then on to crosses and inspirational pieces. When a piece was complete, he would sign and date the back and write a scripture or message for the person he would gift it to. Many people encouraged him to sell his art, but he never would. He said it was his ministry. When someone he knew had a loss in their family, he would make them something special and take it to them. Later when he taught himself to paint, he would paint on wood a picture of a friend or loved ones pet when they died. Grady loved the outdoors and nature, the sunrise, sunset, the sky, and the moon. He loved mowing his yard and planting flowers. He loved the challenge of trying new things. If he could dream it up in his head, he thought he could do it and most of the time he did! Whether it was building a tree house, an arbor, digging a koi pond by hand (with the help of his son and grandson) to erecting a 30 foot cedar cross in his yard. He gave it his best and always succeeded. He loved feeding and watching the birds and squirrels. Grady loved animals and had many pets. The last 2 being Gidget and Pixie who were his best friends. Grady made many cherished friendships that he loved to talk about often and missed his friends after he retired from work. Grady loved homemade ice cream and made it often for his family and friends. Sitting on the porch with a bowl of ice cream and spending time with those he loved was some of his most cherished times. Grady really enjoyed sports! He played basketball in school and was thrilled that his son and grandsons grew up playing basketball and football. He moved Heaven and earth to make sure he was at every game whether home or away. He so wanted to make the trip to Oxford to see Hud play at Ole Miss but his health kept him from it.

In the late 70's and 80's Grady started running and ran several marathons. He and Greg would often run in races together and Dr. Leon Boyd would run with them. Grady loved his family with every fiber of his being. Grady lived a long, happy life and as his health failed he looked forward to Heaven.

The Lord called him home quietly and peacefully in the comfort of his own home surrounded by family on June 1st at 4:27 AM on a Sunday morning.
