Gregory Lyle Blakely

Gregory Lyle Blakely, age 67, passed away peacefully at his home in Selmer, Tennessee, on September 2, 2026.

Born in Selmer on June 7, 1959, to the late Warren Blakely and Launa Nixon Blakely, Gregory was a lifelong resident of the community he cared for so deeply. He was a proud 1977 graduate of McNairy Central High School. On October 27, 1978, he married the love of his life, Nancy Miller, beginning a devoted partnership that spanned nearly 48 years.

A hardworking man with a strong work ethic, Gregory spent his life serving his community through his labor. He worked as a heavy equipment operator, drove a gravel truck, contributed years of service to the Selmer Street and Sanitation Department, and was a valued team member at Davis Brothers Concrete. He was also an active member of the Sons of the American Legion.

Outside of work, Gregory lived life to the fullest. An avid outdoorsman, he was happiest when hunting, fishing, or standing behind a grill. Gregory was legendary in McNairy County for his culinary skills, particularly his fried fish and barbecue. Always generous with his time and talent, he frequently volunteered to cook for local car shows and community benefits. His legacy at the grill was so renowned that folks continued to reach out to him for help with local events, knowing his meals brought people together.

Above all his achievements and hobbies, his family was his greatest joy. He treasured every moment spent with his grandchildren, who affectionately called him "Grandpa."

Gregory was preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Launa Blakely; his mother-in-law, Bertha Miller; father-in-law, Mark Miller; brother-in-law, Levi Miller; and sisters-in-law, Gayle Blakely and T'lene Blakely.

He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Blakely of Selmer, TN; his children, Brandon Blakely (Kaylee) of Ramer, TN, and Amanda Blakely Fiveash (Darren) of Ramer, TN; his six adored grandchildren, Cadyn Fiveash, Cara Beth Fiveash, Carver Fiveash, Lillian Blakely, Wade Harrison Blakely, and Kayce Blakely; his brother, Gary Blakely; his nephews, Chris Blakely and Chad Blakely; along with a host of extended family, friends, and neighbors who will miss his warm heart and generous spirit.
