Guy Wayne Cox

Guy Wayne Cox passed peacefully June 26, 2023 in his home at the age of 84. He was proceeded in death by his parents Carlie and Lois King Cox; his sisters Johnnie Cox Moore, Ruby Cox Bright and Carline Cox Elam; a son Jason Reeder and three grandchildren Alexandra Reeder, Maxwell Taylor and Shelby Taylor.

Guy Wayne lived a full life doing exactly what he loved the most, farming. He was a man of simple needs, dinner normally consisted of cornbread, pinto beans and fried potatoes. He liked to watch old westerns that he had seen before many times. However, simple needs didn’t translate to a simple man. Guy Wayne was a leader in his community from his time in the National Guard, his years of service as the fire chief of Rose Creek volunteer Fire Department or his multiple terms as County Commissioner. When it came up as a problem that they couldn’t find anyone to drive the earth mover at the landfill, Guy Wayne said give me the keys until you find someone. Anyone who spent time around Guy Wayne quickly learned what hard work and dedication really were. He spoke his mind freely, sharing his wealth of experience and knowledge. He was always giving people lessons in life, sometimes on purpose and others just by being himself. If you were doing something stupid, he also didn’t mind pointing that out while laughing with you..  Guy Wayne was a man of his word and his handshake was his bond, and there wasn’t a person that ever questioned this. He retired so many times no one could keep count, but he never could sit still long enough to fully retire. He continued to keep animals throughout his entire life, even though several times he claimed he was done. As hard as he worked, he always stopped to spend with the family. He loved having family at the house to sit on the carport and share stories. He will live on in the hearts and minds of those who knew him, because they are a slightly better person than they were before they met him.

Guy Wayne is survived by his wife Mary Cox of Selmer, TN. His two children Tim Taylor and wife Wendy of Bell Buckle, TN and Tracy Moore and husband Joey of Bartlett, TN. His daughter in-law Kim Reeder of Selmer, TN. His eight beloved grandchildren Brittney Legens, Kaylee Gleaves, Justice Reeder, Eve Reeder, Andrew Moore, Caroline Moore, Dexter Taylor and Sydney Taylor. His four great-grand children Ezra Reeder, Skylar Gleaves, Kason Gleaves and Emilya Gleaves. He has two surviving sisters Joyce Grantham and Cathy Owen both of Selmer, TN.
