IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gwelda
Treece
February 20, 1944 – March 6, 2026
Gwelda Anne Treece was born on February 20, 1944, in Selmer, Tennessee, to the late Elmer "Cub" West and Rubye Gann West. Her life, filled with love and purpose, came to a peaceful close on March 6, 2026, in Shreveport, Louisiana, at the age of 82.
On August 15, 1964, Gwelda embarked on a beautiful journey of marriage with Douglas Winslow Treece. Together they built a life filled with adventure, laughter, and shared dreams, creating countless memories as they traveled. Their partnership blossomed not only in their personal life but also through their entrepreneurial spirit. Gwelda and Doug co-owned Action Air Conditioning in Shreveport, Louisiana, before ultimately returning to McNairy County.
Gwelda was not just a co-business owner but also excelled as a real estate agent and paralegal, leaving a positive impact on all those who had the privilege of working alongside her. She was a woman of many talents and passions, most especially a special love for reading which you could always find her doing.
A long-time member of the Court Avenue Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Selmer, Gwelda’s faith was an integral part of her life. She found joy in her community, and her warm spirit touched the hearts of many, leaving a lasting legacy of kindness and generosity.
She is survived by a son, William Sherman Treece and partner Kate Beifuss of Memphis, TN; a daughter, Jana Gail Treece of Shreveport, LA; two grandchildren, William Chance Walsh and Douglas Gray Walsh; niece, Jennifer Combs Finley and husband Joel and their four children.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Treece was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Combs.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Annette Clark and Angela Owens for their attentive and exemplary caregiving during Gwelda's last months of life.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Court Avenue Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Selmer.
