October 28, 1936 — August 28, 2011

Gwendolyn Montgomery Watts of Florence, AL was born October 28, 1936 in Wayne County, Tennessee, the daughter of the late John Richard and Lizzie Louise Linville Montgomery. Mrs. Watts was a retired clerk with Walgreen's and had lived in Memphis, TN for several years. Mrs. Watts departed this life on Sunday, August 28, 2011 at the home of her daughter at the age of 74 Years, 10 Months. She is survived by a daughter, Diane Bates and husband, Charlie; two grandchildren, Wayne and Chris Bates all of Florence, AL. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Watts was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Wallace Watts. At her request, her body will be cremated with Shackelford Funeral Directors, Waynesboro, TN assisting the family. "I could not stay another day, to laugh, to love, to work or play. Tasks left undone must stay that way, I've found peace at the end of the day. If my parting has left a void, then fill it with remembered joys. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss; oh yes, these things, I too will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow, look for the sunshine of tomorrow. My life's been full, I savored much; good friends, good times, a loved one's touch. Perhaps my time seems all to brief; don't lengthen your pain with undue grief. Lift up your heart and peace to thee, God wanted me now--He set me free." What a journey it's been. The family wishes to thank Amedisys Hospice, Claudia, Kim, Karen, and Chip, and family and friends that have visited or called.
