Harley T. Klein

Harley T. Klein, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2026, in Corinth, Mississippi, at the age of 94 years, 6 months, and 24 days. Born on November 4, 1931, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, he was the cherished son of the late Truman and Thelma Ward Klein.

Harley’s life was beautifully intertwined with that of his devoted wife, Joan Claypool, whom he met on a double date roller skating—where they learned to dance on skates together. They were united in marriage on October 17, 1953, and shared an extraordinary 72 years of love, companionship, and family joy.

An avid outdoorsman, Harley found peace and passion in the natural world. He relished hunting deer, squirrel, rabbit, and turkey, and spent countless cherished moments fishing and riding four-wheelers alongside his grandchildren at Big Buck Resort. His bond with his grandson Matthew was especially marked by their shared love of golf, creating memories that will forever be treasured.

The open road called to Harley and Joan, and together they explored the heart of America in their RV, traveling through every state—including multiple journeys to the breathtaking lands of Alaska and Hawaii. Their spirit of adventure also carried them across the seas on cruises and to the warm embrace of Brownsville, Texas during the winter months.

In 1981, Harley moved to West Tennessee following a transfer with the Vendo Company, where he dedicated over 45 years of his life. His commitment to work was matched only by the joy he found in the company of his family—his greatest treasure.

Harley is survived by his loving wife, Joan Klein of Hornsby, Tennessee; three devoted daughters—Debbie Traversa of Plymouth, Indiana, Donna Krieger of Hornsby, Tennessee, and Pattie Harris of Memphis, Tennessee; five grandchildren—Billy Traversa (Jenn), Matthew Traversa (Emily), George Krieger, Bobby Harris (Jordan), and Lynn Harris; as well as two precious great-grandchildren, Brianna Traversa and Eliana Harris. He is also remembered fondly by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Truman Klein and Thelma Ward Briley; his brother, Bob Klein; and his son-in-law, Bill Traversa.

The legacy of Harley T. Klein is woven through decades of love, adventure, and quiet strength—a life well-lived in the embrace of family and nature. His memory will continue to inspire all who knew him, celebrating a man whose heart was as vast as the landscapes he so dearly loved.
