Harold Brooks Mitchell, age 83, of Selmer, Tennessee died on Thursday, July 8, 2010 at McNairy Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Mitchell was born on November 26, 1926 in Bethel Springs, Tennessee, son of the late Robert Bruce Mitchell and Winnie Brooks Mitchell. He served honorably in the U. S. Army (1945-46) in Japan during World War II. Upon returning home, Mr. Mitchell was united in marriage to his wife of 63 years, Lillie Ann Henson Mitchell, who survives. He was a lifelong farmer in McNairy County and served on the Board of Directors of the McNairy County Co-op for many years and was instrumental in the co-op's formation in the 1960's. His sons continue his farming legacy in operating Mitchell Farms. Mr. Mitchell was a member of First Baptist Church of Bethel Springs. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Daniel Jared Austin, and a brother, Herman Mitchell.
Other than his wife Lillie, Mr. Mitchell is survived by seven children, Larry Mitchell of Selmer, Olivia Hopkins and husband Bill of Franklin, TN, Gail Taylor and husband Dale of Michie, TN, Sheryl Weatherford and husband Randy of Selmer, Judy Hampton and husband Mike of Atlanta, GA, Greg Mitchell and wife Melissa of Selmer, and Robin Blizzard and husband Paul of Atlanta, GA. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren, Jennifer Corey of Los Angeles, CA, Angelyn Zimmerman and husband Dustin of St. Louis, MO, Sara Ashe and husband Jeremy, Drew Mitchell and wife Carrie, Stephanie Mitchell, Rachel Weatherford, Tyler Mitchell, all of Selmer, and Lillie Blizzard of Atlanta, GA. Also survived by six great-grandchildren, Peyton and Chesney Mitchell, Jayden Austin, Addison and Eli Ashe, and Declan Zimmerman.
