Hazel Ward Benson departed this life on Sunday, June 21, 2020, at the age of 90 years, 3 months, and 16 days. She was born in Hardin County, Tennessee on March 5, 1930, the daughter of the late Frank and Alie Seaton Ward. On February 4, 1950, she was united in marriage to Elton Demp Benson, who preceded her in death on September 17, 1990.
Hazel was a lifelong resident of the Walnut Grove Community and a member of the Wards Apostolic Church. She had been employed with White's Cleaners and mostly enjoyed being at home being a caretaker for her family and her friends. Hazel was a devoted Christian lady, enjoyed reading her Bible, going to church, and riding the van to all the fellowship meetings. She loved talking on the phone with friends and family, especially her sister, Nollie Rae Ford, every day. The last visit Hazel had with her family, she made sure that they knew how much she loved them all.
She is survived by her son, Billy C. Benson and his wife Brenda of Savannah, Tennessee; seven grandchildren; fourteen grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Nollie Rae "Not" Ford of Savannah, Tennessee.
In addition to her parents and husband, Hazel was preceded in death by her children, Doris Jean Benson, Angela Kaye Benson, Johnny H. Benson, and Patsy Benson Dennis; siblings, Earl A. Ward, Thomas, L.J. Ward, James Frank Ward, Wilma Ward Martin, Harold Ward, and Annie Cynthia Randleas.
