Helen Davidson Coleman

March 8, 1929 — September 6, 2021

Helen Mae Coleman, 92, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 6, 2021. She was born March 8, 1929 in Mishawaka, IN to the late Peter and Margaret (Maenhout) Van Driessche.

Helen had an unwavering love for Jesus, was a proud member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and prayed her Rosary until her very last days. She spent her younger years working at The Ball Band Factory, helping take care of her younger siblings, and playing multiple sports for fun.

After marrying Charlie and moving to Tennessee, they owned and operated Charlie’s Smokehouse and the Kiwi Shop while raising their two beautiful daughters. After Helen’s retirement from her long career at McDonalds, she enjoyed multiple vacations, camping at the Tennessee River with her friends and family, tap dancing with the Tip Top Tappers of Jackson, bowling on multiple bowling leagues, and water aerobics at the YMCA. She loved teaching all of her grandkids how to Polka, do the chicken dance, play tons of card games, but most of all to always love and give glory to God. Helen will forever be remembered by how spunky she was, her quick witted (sometimes dirty) sense of humor, and the way she enjoyed life to the fullest each and every day. She was always ready for a good time, was the life of the party, and you knew you were always going to have a gut busting laugh when you were around her.

As a Grandma, she always made sure each of her grandkids made their own special memories with her, with each of them having their own incredibly strong bond with her. She spent her final years being a very proud great grandmother to her littlest loves.

On July 17, 1954 she was united in marriage to Charles Davidson; he preceded her in death in 1990. She later married Jay Osborne in 1998 and he preceded her in 2000. She then married Bobby Coleman in 2007 and he also preceded her. Also preceding her in death are her brothers, Raymond, John, Harry, George, Paul, Donald and Gerald Van Driessche and her sisters, Dorothy Vervynckt, Lillian Van Driessche, Grace Sniadecki, Ruth Walkowski and Harriet Volmer.

Survivors include her children, Luann (Michael) Robichaud, and Christy (Bill) Lindsey. Also surviving are her 6 grandchildren, Casey Frederick (Danna), Lacy (Seth) Rowe, Tyler Shepperd, Erica (Danny) Cook, Brooke (Chris) Warrick, and Caleb Lindsey and 8 great-grandchildren. Along with her siblings Kate (David) Smith of South Bend, IN and Lucille (Charles) Weisweaver of Mishawaka, IN.
