Herbert Ashe

William Herbert Ashe was born on August 5, 1926 in McNairy County, Tennessee. He was the son of the late DM and Vera Channell Ashe. He was united in marriage to Cassie Barnes on March 31, 1945. They were married for 51 years until her death on February 15, 1996. He later married Ruby Jean Taylor, she preceded him in death on December 13, 2011.

Herbert was a WWII veteran. He was retired from Brown Shoe Company where he was employed for 40 plus years and was also a retired farmer. He was a member of Union Grove Methodist Church in Selmer, TN. He was an avid fisherman and gardener. He grew the best tomatoes you ever tasted. He loved to play cards, have fish fries, and eat good food. He loved to laugh and have a good time; he always had a joke or tall tale to tell. He loved southern gospel music and loved to go to singings.

Mr. Ashe departed this life on December 5, 2015 at Lynnfield Place at the age of 89 years and 4 months. He is survived by two sons, Gerald Ashe and wife Carolyn of Selmer, TN; Steve Ashe and wife Regina of Corinth, MS; and two stepsons, Harold and Randall Taylor both of Selmer, TN. Herbert had nine grandchildren, Stephanie Ashe, Gayla Ashe Boyer, Jeremy Ashe, Nick Ashe, Landon Ashe, Brandie Ashe, Robert Taylor, Ashely Taylor Burse, and Jennifer Taylor. He also had eleven great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Ashe was preceded in death by two sisters, Pauline Ashe McDaniel and Francine Ashe Russell; one brother Preston Ashe.
