Herschel Stewart Patrick

Apr 20, 1946 — Jul 8, 2026

Herschel Stewart Patrick was born on April 20, 1946 in Covington, Tennessee, the son of the late H.M. and Thelma Stewart Patrick.

On May 11, 1996, he was united in marriage to Sherry Browder, who survives.

Herschel graduated from Byers-Hall High School in Covington, Tennessee, before proudly serving his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he built a successful career in the automobile industry. Over the years, he worked for Gossett Chevrolet in Memphis, Tennessee, Jones Motor Company in Savannah, Tennessee, and also owned and operated a sporting goods store in Covington. He eventually retired as Finance Manager at Ronnie Smith Chevrolet. After retirement, Herschel worked as a substitute teacher in Hardin County, Tennessee.

Above all else, Herschel treasured his family. He loved watching his sons play sports and took great pride in their accomplishments. He enjoyed coaching their baseball teams and cheering them on.

Herschel was a faithful member of Hopewell Baptist Church. He loved spending time outdoors, whether it was on the golf course, or taking trips through Shiloh National Military Park to watch the deer. He also enjoyed exploring new restaurants, and always made sure to browse the dessert menu.

No matter what life placed before Herschel, he faced it with grace, choosing to focus on the good in every challenge. If you asked him how he was doing, his response was always, “Doing fine, and thanks for asking.” Today, those words bring comfort to all who knew and loved him. Herschel is doing fine, and thanks for asking.

Herschel Stewart Patrick departed this life on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, in Selmer, Tennessee, at the age of 80 years, 2 months, and 18 days.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry Patrick; children, Hunter Ross Petty (Lynnze) and Jody Stuart Patrick (Trisha); brother, Charles Patrick (Wanda) of Covington, Tennessee; sister, Mary Lynn Isome of Covington, Tennessee; and his grandchildren, Hayley Patrick and Jaxson Patrick.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Stanley “Pete” Patrick, Shirley Glenn, and Martha Jo Morgan.
