Homer Lee Doyle

Dec 6, 1931 — Jul 27, 2026

Hornsby, TN

Homer Lee Doyle, a humble and gentle soul whose presence graced this earth for nearly 95 years, departed peacefully on July 27, 2026, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee. Born on December 6, 1931, in Hornsby, Tennessee, Homer Lee's life was a testament to quiet strength, abiding faith, and enduring love.

From an early age, Homer Lee was shaped by the caring hands of his parents, Robert Lee Doyle and Eva Mae Wren Doyle, both of whom passed before him and whose memory he carried throughout his life. At just ten years old, Homer Lee's faith was awakened at Hornsby Baptist Church, a community where he would remain a devoted member for the rest of his days.

A proud graduate of Bolivar Central High School in 1949, Homer Lee's journey into adulthood was marked by both talent and service. He served with distinction in the US Air Force, upholding the responsibilities of the military police with honor. Yet, it was perhaps his artistry and skill as a professional musician that brought so much color to his life and to those around him. Known for his incredible gift—being able to play any instrument—Homer Lee brought joy to many performing with a country swing band. His versatility as a musician was matched by his craftsmanship as a pants designer at a local garment factory, blending creativity and diligence into everything he undertook.

But the heart of Homer Lee's story was the love he found and nurtured. Destiny introduced him to Lynn on December 28, 1974, at a VFW dance—they met while he played in the band. Their story became one of unwavering devotion, sealed by their marriage on November 1, 1975. Over the decades, the bond between Homer Lee and Lynn became a beacon of love—steadfast, nurturing, and boundless.

Homer Lee's legacy grows through those who survive him: his beloved wife, Lynn Doyle; his daughters, Kimberly Nield and Amanda Leigh Doyle Gaugh (Chris); his sons, Robert Lee Doyle (Sheila), Richard Lynn Doyle (Denise) and Timothy Bryan Cook (Becky); his brother, Hugh Vernon Doyle, each holding a special place in his heart. Homer Lee's life story is further enriched by the love of 55 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren, who will forever carry his kindness and integrity in their memories.

Homer Lee was, at his core, a humble, kind, and God-fearing man. Those who knew him will remember him as the epitome of a gentleman, someone who never uttered an unkind word and treated every person with respect and compassion. His warmth and character wove a tapestry of love and gentleness that embraced friends, family, and strangers alike.

To honor Homer Lee Doyle’s remarkable life, graveside services will be held on July 29, 2026, at 3:30 p.m. at Wyatt Cemetery, located at 125 Cemetery Ln, Hornsby, TN 38044. Interment will follow at 4:15 p.m., also at Wyatt Cemetery. There, among familiar hills and the memories of generations, he will be laid to rest.

As we gather to remember and say farewell, we celebrate a life filled with music, service, love, and unwavering faith. Though Homer Lee has left our sight, his spirit lingers—in every melody, in every act of kindness, and in the hearts of those who loved him dearly.  Memorial contributions in his name may be sent to Chewalla Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society (American Cancer Society).
