Hunter Benjamin Stephen Gray, born on August 4, 1992, in Selmer, Tennessee, left this world on November 26, 2025, in Pocahontas, Tennessee. He was a beloved husband, father, son, and brother known for his larger-than-life personality that brought much joy to those around him.
A proud graduate of McNairy Central High School, Hunter pursued a career as a welder and pipefitter, working across the United States. He demonstrated a strong commitment to his trade, completing a welder's apprenticeship with the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers. His dedication to his work and skill set earned him the respect of many in the industry.
Hunter had a passion for the outdoors, finding great pleasure in hunting and fishing. He was also an avid supporter of University of Tennessee athletics, particularly football and baseball. If he couldn't take off work to watch the game, he would watch it on his phone while working.
Hunter is survived by his loving wife, Shelby Gray, whom he married November 19, 2022, and their son, Weston James Gray. The family is also looking forward to welcoming a daughter, Savannah Hunter Gray. Hunter is dearly remembered by his mother, LeAnne Locke of Pocahontas, Tennessee, and his father, Darrell Gray (Shannon) of Ramer, Tennessee. He is held dear in the hearts of his siblings, Ava Lanier of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Collin Gray, and Hayden Gray, both of Ramer, Tennessee. Hunter is cherished by his maternal grandmother, Betty Locke of Pocahontas, Tennessee, and paternal grandparents, Jim and Linda Gray of Ramer, Tennessee. Additionally, he leaves behind his mother-in-law, Kathy Russell (Jerry) of Eads, Tennessee, along with many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
Hunter was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Eugene Locke, and his father-in-law, Gregg Russell.
A visitation will be held on December 3, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Selmer, Tennessee. A second visitation will take place on December 4, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM. These gatherings are an opportunity for friends and family to come together to honor and celebrate the remarkable life of Hunter Benjamin Stephen Gray.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
