Irene died peacefully on June 20, 2011.
She was born May 4, 1920, in Bath Springs, Tennessee. After graduation from Saltillo High School she moved to Nashville. There during World War II she caught the eye of a soldier from New York named David Nixon. They married August 1944. They had 33 years and two children together before David's death in 1978.
During Dave's military career Irene learned to love travel as they moved around the country and overseas in England and Germany. After Dave's military retirement they continued to travel to Italy, Colombia, Panama, the Bahamas, and returned to Germany.
Throughout the years Irene worked as a secretary. While in West Palm Beach, she worked for Wood and Cobb and for attorney John Stetson. She was president of the Palm Beach Chapter of the Professional Secretaries International and was their "Secretary of the Year" in 1990.
Irene loved to be involved with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren in everything from Girl Scout camping to whizzing around the golf courses to trips to Disney World to playing board games. One of her favorite trips was the whole family Christmas in Williamsburg.
