Jimmy Basham Simpson was born March 11, 1942 in McNairy County, TN, the son of the late Allen Troy Simpson and Elsie Basham Simpson. He graduated from Selmer High School in 1960. He received a BS in economics from UT and a masters degree (MBA) from the University of Utah.
He was united in marriage to Linda Singleton on June 17, 1967. Mrs. Simpson preceded him in death on November 6, 2012.
He spent many years teaching, mostly at Fayetteville Technical Community College from 1970 until retiring in 2000. He was the first to develop online classes east of the Mississippi river for community colleges.
He was very proud of being an Eagle Scout, collecting family heirlooms, and a 66 lbs Tarpon he caught out of the Atlantic Ocean. He enjoyed sailing on his boat, making wine, genealogy, and spending time with his bluetick coonhound "Blue". One of his favorite sayings, "Man cannot live on bread alone, he must have peanut butter".
He departed this life on June 4, 2023 in Savannah, Tennessee at the age of 81 Years, 2 Months, 24 Days.
He is survived by a daughter, Raquel Simpson; a brother, Don Simpson and wife Sharon; and numerous cousins.
