J.D. Matlock was born in McNairy County on May 16, 1931, the son of the late Reeder Columbus and Floy Lee Matlock. Mr. Matlock worked at Grady George’s supermarket and retired from the Brown Shoe Company in Savannah. He was a skilled craftsman and spent his retired years building beautiful woodwork. He was a member of Wesley’s Chapel United Methodist Church. He dearly loved his family and adored his five grandchildren. Mr. Matlock departed this life on Friday, January 29, 2010 at the age of 78 years, 8 months, 13 days. He was united in marriage on August 21, 1956 to Jackie Lay Matlock, who survives. In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, Johnny Matlock and wife Bobbie, and Ronny Matlock and wife Cindy, all of Savannah; two granddaughters, Jessica Davey and husband Mel of Nashville, and Ashley Matlock of Savannah; and three grandsons, Daniel Matlock, Ryan Matlock and Austin Matlock, all of Savannah. Mr. Matlock is also survived by three sisters, Oma Jean Ratliff, Lou Jane Essary and Martha Rinks; and two brothers, Jerry Wayne Matlock and Charles Ray Matlock. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Lovie Deadrick and three brothers, R.C. Matlock, E.G. Matlock and Joe Matlock.
