J. R. Melson was born on August 29, 1936 in Lutts, Tennessee, the son of the late Marvin Taft and Clariss Perry Melson.
On September 3, 1963, he was united in marriage to Shirley Kate Stricklin, who survives.
Mr. Melson honorably served his country in the United States Army National Guard. He worked for Hassell-Hughes Lumber Company for 36 years and as a handyman in Lutts, Tennessee. J. R. attended Abrams Chapel Church in Savannah, Tennessee.
J. R. Melson departed this life on October 1, 2021 in Savannah, Tennessee at the age of 85 years, 1 month, and 2 days.
He is survived by his wife 58 years, Shirley Melson of Collinwood, Tennessee; sister, Barbara Melson of Savannah, Tennessee; brother, Hershel Melson of Savannah, Tennessee; niece, Angela Marie Dixon of Savannah, Tennessee; and nephew, Shane Dickerson of Taylorsville, Georgia.
In addition to his parents, J. R. was preceded in death by his sister, Nannie Marie Dickerson.
