J. W. (Daddy Cool) DePriest was born December 10, 1925 in Sardis, Tennessee the son of the late Silas A. and Talitha Williamson DePriest.
Mr. DePriest served honorably in the United States Army during World War II. He attended basic training at Camp Wheeler, GA, serving in the 7th Army 44th Division Company K. For his service in the European Theatre, he was awarded the Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge, and the Victory Medal. He was a member of Disabled Veterans. He was very proud to have served his country.
Mr. DePriest lived in Stantonville, TN and as a single parent raised six daughters. He worked as an ambulance driver and psychiatric aide for Western State Mental Hospital in Bolivar, TN retiring in 1979. He was mechanically inclined, enjoyed his retirement years boating, fishing and working in his yard. He liked telling jokes, laughing, and watching baseball. Through the years he was known by his c.b. handle, "Mustang." He will be greatly missed.
Mr. DePriest departed this life on September 1, 2010 in Stantonville, Tennessee at the age of 84 Years, 8 Months, 22 Days. He is survived by six daughters, Donna Johnson and husband James of Iuka, MS, Barbara McMahan and husband Jim of Houston, TX, Sherry Givens and husband Gerry of Florence, AL, Terry DePriest Byrd of Austin, TX, Tina Weatherly and husband Jimmy of Selmer, TN, Lynda Adwell of Louisburg, KS; a brother, R.J. Keen of Selmer, TN; fifteen grandchildren, Christopher Floyd, Bill McMahan, Michael Petty, Joann Petty, Anthony Petty, Rachel Biggs, Sarah Byrd, Samuel Byrd, Abigail Byrd, Susanna Byrd, Josiah Byrd, Blake Weatherly, Allen Weatherly, Elisa Kraemer, Jeremy Adwell; eight great grandchildren, David Petty, Matthew Petty, Joshua Petty, Nolan Petty, Allie McMahan, Bailey McMahan, Rhylie MeKinnis, Briley Jade Weatherly; special friends, Roger Dale McClain, Anthony Sweat, and Drucilla Coleman.
