J. C. Whitaker was born June 23, 1925 in Michie, Tennessee the son of the late Claude and Mabel Howard Whitaker.
He was united in marriage to Lois Fisher on March 22, 1944.
Mr. Whitaker retired as a maintenance planner for Tennessee River Pulp & Paper in Counce, where he served as President of the Labor Union. He was a member of the Lebanon United Methodist Church. Mr. Whitaker served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He was stationed on the battleship U.S.S. West Virginia, and served in the Pacific Theatre. He helped to build the Lebanon United Methodist Church, and served as Chairman of the Board of Directors for Lebanon Cemetery. He was skilled with his hands, and was certified as a carpenter, electrician, and plumber.
Mr. Whitaker departed this life on August 14, 2010 in Michie, Tennessee at the age of 85 Years, 1 Month, 22 Days. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lois Whitaker of Michie, TN; four children: Eddie Whitaker and wife Brenda of Lutts, TN, Sue Dills and husband John of Michie, TN, Jerry Whitaker of Athens, GA, and Mike Whitaker and fiancee Shelean of Dyersburg, TN; eight grandchildren: Celie Fetty Omeara, Wes Whitaker, Todd Whitaker, Kristin Fetty Key, Eric Whitaker, Anne Lacey Whitaker, Brooke Whitaker Sanford, and Anna Whitaker; five great grandchildren, Maddie Key, Will Omeara, Fisher Key, Ethan Omeara, and Reid Key, Jr.; a brother, Lowell Whitaker and wife Jo Ann of LaCenter, KY; a sister, Joyce Brown and husband Robert of Guys, TN; and a host of extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Whitaker was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Whitaker.
