James Andy Cummings, aged 93, of Collinwood, TN, peacefully passed away on March 20, 2026. Born on July 22, 1932, in Collinwood, TN, he was the son of the late Lincoln and Ellen Blalock Cummings.

James worked in the auto industry in Detroit, Michigan, for many years before returning home to Tennessee. He enjoyed being outdoors and especially loved training dogs, coon hunting, and fishing. You could find him most days sitting on his patio swing, and maybe even singing a little bluegrass music and playing the harmonica with his family and friends. James’s faith in God was a quiet but powerful presence in his life. He found his connection to God in everyday moments-in nature, in acts of love, and in the care he showed to others.

He was united in marriage to Imogene “Jean” Henson on October 15, 1952, and they spent 62 years together until her passing in 2014. They were the proud parents of Judy, Terry, and Tim.

In addition to Jean and his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Terry Cummings; siblings: Carl Cummings (Iveta), Ruby Martin (Earl), Vada DeCapo, Mildred Burns (Durell), Obie Cummings (Elsie), Marshall Cummings (Peggy), and Ruth Ellen May (Manuel); brothers-in-law: Arlie Henson and Wayne Johnson; and sister-in-law: Charlene Cummings.

He is survived by his children: Judy Beckham (Tommy) and Tim Cummings (Paula); grandchildren: Chastity Byrd (Michael), Christy Vandygriffe (Jackie), Mindy Hunt (Tim), Justin Cummings, Ashley Ray (Billy), Caleb Cummings, Chase Cummings, and Caylee Cummings; 15 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; siblings: Lester Cummings, David Cummings (Linda), and Linda Johnson; sister-in-law, Alphie Tilly; and brother-in-law: Junior Henson, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 22, 2026 from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm service time at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Collinwood, TN.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 22, 2026 at 2:00 pm at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Collinwood, TN with Tommy Beckham officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens in Collinwood, TN.

Pallbearers will be Michael Byrd, Jackie Vandygriffe, Tim Hunt, Billy Ray, Caleb Cummings, Alex Byrd, Chase Cummings, and Jack Avery Vandygriffe.
